The Reserved Water Rights Compact Commission adjudicates existing water rights under Montana water use statutes and negotiates water rights with the federal government and Montana's Indian tribes. In negotiations, the Commission acts on behalf of the Governor.
The Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate each select two members from their respective bodies who join five other members appointed by the Governor and the Attorney General.
