The 13 members of the Microbusiness Advisory Council advise the Department of Commerce regarding the operation and maintenance of the Microbusiness Development and Finance Program.
The program is responsible for oversight of microbusiness development corporations, which are defined as nonprofit corporations organized and existing under the laws of the state to provide training, technical assistance, and access to capital for the startup or expansion of qualified microbusinesses. A qualified microbusiness is one that produces goods or provides services and has fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees and annual gross revenues of less than $500,000.
Two Representatives, appointed by the Speaker of the House, and two Senators named by the Committee on Committees serve as nonvoting participants in the Advisory Council, joining the nine members appointed by the Governor.
